The LifeBody approach to teacher training

At LifeBody, Pilates is taught as a system, not a collection of exercises.

Great teachers are not developed through memorisation alone. They are developed through observation, self-practice, supervised teaching, and mentorship.

This programme is built around how Pilates has traditionally been passed on. Through guidance, dialogue, and responsibility.

You will not be rushed.
You will not be left to figure things out alone.
You will be supported at every stage of your development.

Programme overview

The Full Comprehensive Teacher Training is a nine-month, 600-hour education in the complete Classical Pilates system, as originally designed by Joseph Pilates.

Rather than focusing solely on learning exercises, this programme develops your ability to understand the system as a whole, apply it intelligently, and teach it with confidence.

You will study the full repertoire across all apparatus, including:

  • Mat

  • Reformer

  • Cadillac and Tower

  • Wunda Chair and High Chair

  • Barrels and Spine Corrector

  • Pedi-Pole

By the end of the programme, you will be able to:

  • Teach with clarity and precision across all levels

  • Modify responsibly for individual needs and injuries

  • Confidently lead both group classes and private sessions

  • Understand when and why to progress or regress clients

  • Teach the Classical method with integrity in professional studio settings

Your journey through the programme

Advanced, learning to think

You move beyond scripts, working with case studies and individual needs. You learn to problem-solve and adapt while maintaining integrity.

Integration, becoming employable

You integrate everything into real-world teaching, managing multi-level sessions and preparing for work in professional studio environments.

You are supported throughout. You are not rushed, and you are not left alone.

Foundation, learning the system

You build a strong personal practice and learn how the Classical system is structured. You develop an understanding of order, transitions, and set-ups, and begin learning how to observe bodies.

Progression, learning to teach

You begin teaching under guidance, developing clear cueing, responsible modifications, and confidence in front of clients.

Mentorship at the centre

Mentorship is not an add-on in this programme. It is the foundation.

You will be:

  • Closely observed in both practice and teaching

  • Given clear, honest feedback to support your progression

  • Guided through challenges and uncertainties

  • Supported in developing your own teaching voice and standards

This approach reflects how Pilates has traditionally been passed on and is what allows teachers to develop depth, confidence, and longevity in their work.

What you will leave with

  • Confidence teaching group classes and private sessions

  • Ability to modify responsibly across all levels

  • Clear decision-making skills and teaching standards

  • Readiness to work in professional studio environments

  • A globally recognised Full Comprehensive Classical Pilates certification

Graduates also become part of the LifeBody teaching community, with opportunities for continued education, mentorship, and potential teaching pathways.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Description text goes hereOur programme is designed to give you a complete understanding of the classical Pilates system, not just a list of exercises. You’ll learn how the entire method connects, how to see and teach real bodies, and how to build confidence through mentorship, observation, and practice. We focus on developing thoughtful, skilled teachers who understand why they’re teaching each movement, not just how.

  • The full programme runs over nine months and combines in-person training weekends, self-practice, observation hours, and teaching practice. You’ll also have access to our online resources, mentorship, and feedback sessions throughout. The structure is designed to fit around work and family life while maintaining the depth and consistency needed to become a confident teacher.

  • You’ll be supported every step of the way. Throughout the course you’ll have access to your lead educator, mentors, and a small, connected peer group. Post-graduation, we continue to offer teaching opportunities, advanced workshops, and an active teacher community for continued growth.

  • A consistent personal practice is recommended before starting the course. You don’t need to be an expert, but you should be familiar with the method and committed to developing your own movement understanding. If you’re unsure whether you’re ready, we can book a consultation or class assessment to guide you on next steps.

  • It’s important to understand that the Pilates industry is currently not formally regulated meaning no Pilates qualification is officially accredited.

However, the LifeBody Teacher Training is widely recognised within the industry, particularly among classical studios, and will allow you to teach confidently across both classical and contemporary settings. Many contemporary-trained teachers find it difficult to transition into classical environments, but our comprehensive training gives you the full system and understanding to work in both.

On completion, you’ll also be eligible for professional teaching insurance (we offer discounted cover through Balens) and can apply for opportunities across the UK and internationally including at LifeBody and Soho House locations.
